6 Ways to Check Your New Used Car
Did you buy a used car? If so, congratulations! You're investing in your future. Used cars are much cheaper than new ones, and they typically come with lower monthly payments, which can save you a lot of money for other expenses.
However, used cars do not have the same guarantees that new vehicles do - if something goes wrong, you're responsible for fixing it. This blog post will help make sure your used car purchase is safe and reliable by walking through six ways to check your used car before driving off the lot or taking possession of it at a dealership.
1. Check the Vehicle History Report
A vehicle history report will give you information about how many owners this particular model has had over its lifetime. It also provides detailed information about any accidents that have occurred during those years and whether or not it was salvaged at some point (which means it was totaled). A used car with a clean history report is the best choice.
2. Check the VIN
The Vehicle Identification Number or VIN is used to identify a car. In most cases, it should be located in one of three places: on the dashboard near the bottom side of the windshield, on top of your used vehicle's steering wheel column, and somewhere inside your used car's glove compartment. If you cannot find it, check your used car's registration papers or documents.
3. Check the Used Car's Engine
Unlike new cars, used ones can have oil leaks. A used vehicle that has been well maintained is less likely to have any significant issues with its internal parts, including hoses and cables.
4. Check Used Tires
This is one of the most important things to check for in your used vehicle. Make sure the tires aren’t very old or totally worn out.
5. Look for Interior Wear & Tear
Used car dealerships will sometimes hide used-car internal defects by covering them with mats or other accessories. You must remove the mats and used accessories to see if there are any stains or tears.
If the used vehicle has fabric upholstery, check for rips in the seats, especially near seams where dirt can hide.
Look under each used car seat down to the floorboards for anything that could be hiding damage underneath. In addition, check door panels, center consoles, and any other out-of-the-way places where there may be interior damage.
6. Listen for Noise
A used car shouldn't be loud. If you hear any strange noise when starting up the car, it might mean something is off with your engine or other vehicle parts that are harder to identify without a mechanic's help. It could also just be normal sounds in your vehicle, but this could be a sign that something is wrong with it.
